    Y5 information - Autumn Term

IPC Topic - Autumn 1 - Moving People
Our first IPC topic sees the children learning about why people move. The launch day will involve pupils bringing in an object that they would take with them if they suddenly had to move. The children will also listen to the story ‘When Jessie Came Across the Sea' and discuss why they think people move.
During this topic the children will learn about natural disasters, Roman invasions and their legacy, slavery, migration and adaptation.

IPC Topic - Autumn 2 - Myths and Legends
In Autumn 2 the children will learn about the differences between myths and legends and will look closely at societies in which myths and legends have played an important role.

    ICT
The children will learn about E-safety. They will then begin to use PIVOT to design their own moving person. In Autumn 2, they will use imovie to create a retelling of a myth.

    RE
In RE we will be covering the topic ‘Symbols' and why they are special for followers or themselves. The children will be able to recognise and understand key symbols from the six world faiths.

    PE
During PE the children will practise their games skills learning how to use equipment such as balls, bats, hoops and bean bags to improve their co-ordination and invent simple games.
In Autumn 2, the children will learn about different types of dance.

    Music
Our focus this half term is ‘African cyclical patterns'. This will involve the children listening to and composing their own cyclical, musical patterns. They will also learn to sing songs in, unison and two parts, with clear diction, control of pitch, a sense of phrase and musical expression.

During the second half term music will link to the IPC topic- Myths and Legends. Children will compose their own pieces to represent the different stories.

    P.S.H.C.E.
Our values for this term are Be Bold-Aim High and Be Safe-Stay happy. In Be Bold, we are setting class and individual targets and making a class induction booklet for new children. We will also be writing our own class vision statement which will take into account the five Investors in Pupils' values.
In Autumn 2, our values will be Be Creative and the children will learn about financial responsibility.
